Are we ready?

After 9 months of waiting (really years and years if you ask my parents) we're finally going to be parents. There would not have been a better day than to have Emily on this day, as today is my mom's birthday. I could not give her a better gift than a grandchild.

So here's the recap of how the day went.

My wife went to work then grocery shopping and apparently throughout the day she was having contractions, but like a trooper she toughed it out. I on the other hand was working from home and taking a half day off for our last check up.

When she got home she told me about the contractions that she was having all day. She even mentioned that when she was at the grocery store she had to stop in the middle of the aisle. All I can think of was "what am I gonna have to do to make it up to her?"

2:30 pm: We then left for the doctor for our last check up with our gynecologist. Our doctor informed us that we'll be having the baby within 24 hours. She asked us if we wanted to go ahead and check into the hospital, but my wife said no, so we went home and try to make sure that all the bags are packed and we're ready to go.

8:45 pm: My wife was watching Big Brother (I can't believe that show is still on!!!), my wife yelled my water broke. All I can think of was that couch is ruined (it wasn't). Then it dawned on me that We got to go!!! I went to my sister-in-law's room and told her to get dress because your sister's about to have the baby. I grabbed the bags got in the car, made sure everyone is there and yes I started to become the forgetful husband. I got the wife, my sister-in-law, our bags, and me in the car, but NOT the Keys.

Our hospital was not close to the house but we made really good time. This was the same hospital that we took a pregnancy tour at, which they made the POINT of telling us what to do if we have a baby after hours. Yeah I don't remember that part. So like an idiot I drove around to look for an Emergency entrance that doesn't exist.

My wife is now yelling in pain as I am turning around because I cannot find the Emergency entrance. When we got back the the front entrance it was locked. Luckily there was really nice guy getting out of the front door and even grabbed us a wheelchair.

9:30 pm: We were at the nurse's desk and she asked if we are already checked in, luckily we were. I can only imagine how much paper work we would have to do if we weren't. Another nurse was ready to take us to our room but I guess she didn't know which room so she first took us to a room in the West Wing that was not ready, then we went to another room on the East Wing that was also not ready then finally to Room 1 which was a room 10 feet from the nurse's desk. This was the room they said that cannot be used as it's the tour room. Really?

9:45 pm: We were finally in the room but we went to the hospital too late and my wife couldn't have any pain reliever. We did have epidural, but that couldn't be given until the blood work is finished.

10:45 pm: Our nurse asked if we were ready to push, but apparently she wasn't because the hasn't eaten yet and asked if it's ok if she grabbed something to eat. Since my wife was still feeling a little bit of pain we told her to get food. I'm sure she asked because she knows that this process usually takes awhile (she didn't know my wife).

11:45 pm: The real pushing began and 45 minutes later my daughter was out. She didn't cry right away after being born she only cried after being taken away from my wife to get cleaned up, weighed, measure and foot printed.

We were now parents!
